Mentor an “Odyssey U” Student:
Are you familiar with the college admissions and financial aid process? Share your time and knowledge by serving as a mentor to an Odyssey student on the path to college during their final year before graduation.
Mentors develop a one-on-one relationship with a rising Odyssey senior to provide guidance, counseling, and motivational support with the goal of helping the student be successful with the college admissions process. Mentors help students stay on top of deadlines; attend and encourage the student to participate in the Odyssey College Quest College Fair, held in the fall; and encourage the parent(s) to attend a computer workshop on applying for financial aid. You do not need to be the “expert”—just commit to helping them find the resources to get the answers they need.
One of the favorite parts of the day for our Odyssey Elementary students (and teachers!) is visiting the library—they can’t wait to browse the aisles and select an enticing new book to dive into. They love Story Time and especially appreciate having guests visit and share favorite books with them. This is a great opportunity for you to get to know these special children and share their hopes and dreams. Please consider giving an hour one day during the summer program; it will touch your heart and change your life.
Do you have a special gift for organization? Are you a computer whiz? Do you need community service hours? We can use your help in our Odyssey office. We often have the need for systems development, spreadsheet maintenance, or simple filing help. Your time can help our staff put their resources where they are really needed—toward the needs of our Odyssey students.
Do you have a special skill that you think might be helpful to Odyssey and our students? Please call our office at (404-367-5150)! We’d love to hear from you!
